We know that getting a new deck, patio, or sunroom is an exciting endeavor, but we also know you will probably have questions for us as well. Here are a few common questions our customers have asked over the years.
Of course! Before you pull out your checkbook to start writing a check, we want to make sure you have the best idea possible of what to expect for your home addition.
Cedar is naturally a highly resistant species of tree. It staves off decay and rot which makes it one of the most long-lasting choices without needing to pressure treat it. It’s a great choice as it is usually inexpensive and looks great.
Ah, a tricky one! While the differences do seem very small at first, the biggest difference between the two is an all-season sunroom implements double-paned, energy-efficient glass that does a far better job at keeping out UV rays than standard single pane glass would. Four season sunrooms on the other hand are still great as they are constructed to keep the elements out but typically do not feature this more impressive glass.
To start, ensure that you have a broom, hose, wood sealer, and a deck cleaning agent. You’ll want to begin the cleaning process by first sweeping or blowing (if you have a leaf blower) all the surface-level twigs, leaves, etc. from the deck. After the initial layer is gone, use a hose or a pressure washer to remove the caked-on dirt and grime that builds up over time. After this is done, go to work with your deck cleaning agent, and be sure to follow the instructions to the letter. Once all is cleaned off, then you’ll reseal your deck and get to enjoy it in all its original splendor.
Pressure-treated lumber shares all the natural beauty of its natural brethren but separates itself with its chemically infused attributes. These attributes can range from resistance to burning, burrowing insects, fungal diseases, and lots more. Because of these benefits, pressure-treated lumber tends to be lower maintenance and longer lasting.
It’s bound to happen eventually, but it doesn’t have to be the end for your deck. Replacing deck boards (or repairing the deck) can be easily done by measuring and then purchasing a new section of wood to replace it with. After you get the new section of wood, you’ll want to cut it down to size and then hammer it into place with wood nails to ensure it stays for years to come. If you’re not too DIY though, give us a ring and we’ll be happy to assist with your repair or replacement needs!
