Screen Porches

Screen Porch Builder Asheville, NC

Did you know that a town in North Carolina was placed on the list of the nation’s top cities with the worst mosquito problems? It’s no wonder, as our summers are hot and humid—perfect for those little critters to increase their population. We’ve never met a fan of those bloodsuckers, but we have made plenty of our Western North Carolina customers fans of screened porches!

Screened porches are exactly as they sound, it’s a porch with a barrier installed that protects against bugs, some heat, and more without completely removing the connection to nature. While porches are typically what come to mind, screened porch contractors can also install a screen for patio protection as well as for your deck. These are both great options when a sunroom isn’t quite the right fit, but you still want that ability to be outside while protected from the peskier elements of it.

Screen Porch Installation

Screen porch installation has evolved over the years. It used to be done with a staple gun and some material, but now we have far better techniques to truly make a long-lasting and appearance-improving addition.

  1. When the screen porch installer begins work, the typical process is to first remove any existing screening (if you had this already installed before) and then begin installing vertical base strips to the posts.
  2. They will then trim the strips down to size to ensure the most view out is achieved then begin installing the screen fabric using specialty tools to perfectly line it up, attach it, then trim any additional you won’t need off.
  3. From there, they’ll add another layer over the screen itself sealing it in and improving the look of your porch.
  4. Your new screened porch should be good to go!

Types of Screen Porches

Lanai Porch

Lanai porches are usually a lot larger than the typical porch and are perfect for screens. Since they are typically covered by your home’s roof already, adding a screen to this large space makes for a great lounging area, especially if you spring for a ceiling fan, some furniture, and other necessities.

Screened in Deck

If you have a deck installed and want to add another element of protection to it, adding a screen is a great choice. To do this, our team would install posts and a roof (it can be open or solid) to attach screens to before being able to install from here. These are great if you have regular social gatherings or just want a place outside to have dinner with your significant other without dealing with the bugs.

Enclosed Porch

An enclosed porch is typically smaller than a lanai porch but shares the characteristics of having the home’s roof covering it as well as multiple walls. These walls can be sturdy or screened in with the latter able to be installed by your local Asheville, NC screen porch company. The best thing about this is once it’s screened in, you can often open your porch door to let fresh air in without the fear of bugs coming along with it.
